Ney Melo & Jennifer Bratt come to Tucson

Ney Melo and Jennifer BrattArgentine Tango Weekend Workshop
September 17-19, 2010

You will remember Ney and Jennifer from the first Tucson Tango Festival in 2009. We are so lucky that they had a change in their European schedule which was pushed back by one week (Our Week) so they can now come to Tucson and grace us with their presence and teaching talents.

World-renowned tango dancers and teachers Ney Melo & Jennifer Bratt started in the New York City and Buenos Aires tango scenes, learning from the old milongueros and dancing every night in the milongas. They went on to teach and guide young dancers in the art of Villa Urquiza style Tango in 2003. In 2007, they relocated to San Francisco and opened their studio “TangoVida San Francisco”. After three marvelous years there, they moved to South Beach and opened “TangoVida Miami” in 2010.

Immersion Workshops

Periodically, Rusty and I offer weekend immersion workshops at our home studio here in Tucson, AZ. We have found that a more intense immersion process is helpful in the learning process. Being immersed in Argentine Tango over a weekend results in the integration of concepts and techniques. Your body begins to adopt the muscle memory it needs to dance confidently and competently with your partner and the music.

Our immersion workshops usually consist of 2 days of a related topic for a total of four 1.5 hour Argentine Tango classes:

  • Introduction to Argentine Tango
  • Beyond the Basics
  • Milonga for Beginners
  • Milonga Beyond the Basics
  • Vals 1-2-3
  • Vals Beyond the Basics
  • Intermediate Figuras and Musicality
  • Advancing your Milongas
  • Creativity for your Vals
  • Advanced Concepts and Techniques
  • These workshops are kept small and intimate to nurture a higher degree of one-on-one attention between students and instructors and to lay the foundations for social interactions and growth amongst the group. The group you learn with become your home dance community out in the world.

Argentine Tango is a unique and special dance that improvises, grows and evolves upon the dance floor of the traditions developed in Buenos Aires. Tucson is a very active tango community offering a variety of weekly group classes, practicas and milongas. We love to dance Argentine Tango and dancing Argentine Tango in Tucson is easy to do. Tucson hosts one major Festival per year and hosts a variety of Master Tango instructors from Argentina and around the world.
