Would you like to take your leading skills to a new level? Are you tired of experiencing the same repeated mistakes on the milonga floor that disrupt your dance and frustrate yourself and your partner? I would like to offer my help in the discovery process needed to enhance, finesse and smooth out your leading skills along with showing you how what you do is tied into and is sometimes dictated by the music.

The goal will be to provide you with insights on improving your basic foundation leading skills. These foundations will enhance your ability to grow your style and repertoire over time.

This package will include five 1 hour private lessons one-on-one with me. My focus will not be to teach you new steps but instead, to take the ones you are experiencing problems with and to improve and finesse them. In this process you, yourself, will discover options for new movements.

TUCSON COMMUNITY PRACTICA

When: Every Tuesday starting at 7:30pm
Where: The Home Studio, 3305 N. Pebble Rapids Plc, Tucson, Az 85712
Cost: $5

A practica is your opportunity to improve, develop and integrate what you have been learning in your lessons. Classes are for learning, Practicas are for practicing and a Milonga is the ultimate destination for dancing! Partner rotations (although not required), peer interactions and the opportunity to ask questions are encouraged and supported. Local instructors are invited to attend (at no cost) to be on hand to work with their students in this practice environment. Local and visiting Dj’s are invited to take a turn providing the music on a rotating basis.

BEGINNING (Foundations) & INTERMEDIATE LEVEL CLASSES

When: Every Thursday, 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Where: Arizona Ballet Theatre, 2512 E. 6th St. Tucson, AZ 85716
Cost: $10 per class or take both for $15

The Beginning/Foundational level class begins at 7pm and includes the elements and techniques need for taking your first steps on the dance floor. Foundations covers the embrace, walking, basic turns and musicality. The foundations class flows naturally into the 8pm Intermediate level where we will take those elements and integrate them into danceable figuras for the Milonga floor! We will introduce you to the language and codigos of Argentine Tango as well as providing some insights into the history of the dance and why the Argentine Tango dance and the Argentine Tango music are integral to each other.

MILONGUITA

When: Every Friday, 8pm-11pm

Cost: Donation or bring a refreshment to share

An informal Milonga! This is an opportunity to socialize and meet your fellow Tango dancers in an informal setting. The music is arranged in the traditional Milonga format of Tango, Tango, Vals, Tango, Tango, Milonga but a small amount of practice and the freedom to ask questions and provide polite feedback is encouraged. Besides being a very fun evening this is also an avenue to acclimatize you to the formal Milonga setting. The energy is high and a lot of fun is had. Hope you can join us!

Periodically, Rusty and I offer weekend immersion workshops at our home studio here in Tucson, AZ. We have found that a more intense immersion process is helpful in the learning process. Being immersed in Argentine Tango over a weekend results in the integration of concepts and techniques. Your body begins to adopt the muscle memory it needs to dance confidently and competently with your partner and the music.

Our immersion workshops usually consist of 2 days of a related topic for a total of four 1.5 hour Argentine Tango classes:

These workshops are kept small and intimate to nurture a higher degree of one-on-one attention between students and instructors and to lay the foundations for social interactions and growth amongst the group. The group you learn with become your home dance community out in the world.

Tango is a true encounter of peace and cohesion and connection that we humans, in our current social and political climates, are finding extremely hard to find elsewhere in our lives.

Tucson is a very active tango community offering a variety of weekly group classes, practicas and milongas. We love to dance Argentine Tango and dancing Argentine Tango in Tucson is easy to do. Tucson hosts one major Festival per year and hosts a variety of Master Tango instructors from Argentina and around the world. Our tango community is welcoming and open and we are always excited to meet new people taking their first few steps into this elegant and passionate dance.
